Carlson Gracie Essex Head Coach - Alain Pozo

Alain Pozo is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black belt (Wilson 'Junior' Cretaro, 2013) with 17 years of grappling experience.

Alain began his BJJ training in 1996 in Recife, Brazil at the Gracie Barra academy with Master Ze Radiola. He quickly began competing; his first competition was after  3 months, a local state tournament where he was runner-up.

Alain moved to Europe in 1999 to study, where difficulties finding a BJJ academy meant he supplemented his training with judo, boxing and wrestling. After completion of his studies and some time spent travelling, Alain eventually settled in London. This is where he became one of the founding members of the infamous Carlson Gracie Team, based at The Boiler Room. Alain was witness to much of the early growth of Jiu-jitsu in the UK and is proud to have taken part in many of the early Tournaments.

In 2004 Alain moved to Florida, USA. This is where he focused on and developed much of this no-gi grappling game, training alongside many accomplished grapplers and experienced MMA fighters.

Alain began his coaching career upon his return to the UK in 2009. Head coach of Carlson Gracie Essex, Alain's students have already had a lot of success in the cage and on the mat.

Muay Thai Instructor - Alex Costa

Alex began training martial arts over 24 years ago in my home town of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and have since gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, training and competing all over the world.
He was under Ademir Da Costa in Brazil, (considered one of the best fighters of his time) where he became one of the most successful pupils. He has belonged to important fight teams throughout his competitive career such as kyokushin kai kan in Japan, where he spent 6 months training and living with the world champion Tsukamoto Norichika. Chute Boxe, the home of fighters such as Wanderlie Silva, Anderson Silva,  and Shogun.  Team Moises Gibi Batista, three times Muay Thai world champion, and Macaco gold team, one of the first and most renowned Vale Tudo fighters in Brazil. In addition he has trained in Mike’s Gym in Holland, and Super Pro Samui Gym, in Thailand.

Alongside his career as a fighter he has a passion for teaching, starting when he was only 15 years old giving classes in my first Kyokushin Dojo upon achieving his brown belt. In 2002 he obtained my  Bsc honours degree in physical education furthering his knowledge of all aspects of  health and fitness. He has since gained 19 years of experience within this industry, teaching in a range of places, from underground fighter gyms to top commercial establishments. Guiding, coaching, testing and motivating a complete spectrum of people to exercise in a conscious and healthy way, to achieve whatever they want.

He has extensive experience and knowledge of both the commercial and competitive sides of the fitness and health industry. Working with a complete range of clients including, women, children, senior citizens, professional fighters, body builders, and those recovering from substance abuse. Having trained and competed so much in his life has only strengthened his professional capacity and ability to deliver clients and students the best possible results. "I believe everyone can achieve their goals, and it is a passion for me to help people on their way to doing this."

Since arriving in England 3 years ago, he have furthered all sides of my career, having had and won three fights, gained two years experience running a fighter gym and managed an extensive range of personal clients.
